Porcelain Crowns

When the size of a filling exceeds a certain proportion of the tooth, it must be replaced with a cap, also called a “crown.” In addition to restoring the original strength and blending beautifully with adjacent teeth, porcelain crowns look very natural and don’t have a dark metal line. They reflect light with a natural healthy glow, creating a great look in life and in photos.

Dental crowns are needed when teeth begin to chip or wear down, usually caused by factors such as teeth grinding, an improper bite, or decay. Crowns add strength and stability to such teeth, by completely covering over the entire surface of the afflicted tooth. At Sterling Dental, we implement the best possible cosmetic option: porcelain.

Of the main types of crowns (the other options are gold and metal-ceramic), porcelain crowns create an appearance virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth. They have the ability to capture and reflect light just like natural teeth. Patients at Sterling Dental can also choose crowns made from zirconia, a white material even stronger than porcelain.

Porcelain crowns usually require two to three appointments in order to create the most durable and accurate fitting for the affected tooth. But, once a thin layer of tooth has been removed for the bonding and the crown has been perfectly fitted to the tooth, you’ll have a perfectly natural-looking tooth!
